Uhura's red uniform is my favorite cosplay costume. I've always loved the name "Uhura" which comes from the Swahili word uhuru, meaning freedom, and Nyota means star, so Nyota Uhura means Star of Freedom. Which, in real life, Nichelle Nichols certainly was.

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, portrayed by Nichelle Nichols in the original Star Trek series, is a key member of the Starship Enterprise crew.

As the Communications Officer, she is responsible for maintaining contact with other ships and civilizations they encounter during their exploratory missions.

Uhura is highly skilled in multiple languages and possesses exceptional expertise in translating and interpreting alien communications. Her character is known for her professionalism, intelligence, and strong presence on the bridge. Nichelle Nichols' groundbreaking role as an African-American woman in a prominent position on a popular television series made her an influential figure in breaking racial barriers and inspiring future generations.
